Megan Homuth, an NDSU graduate, has been recognized as the 2026–27 West Fargo Public School Staff of the Year, reflecting her dedication to education and strong connection with the school community. She graduated from NDSU in 2016 with a degree in social science education and built a successful teaching career.
She expressed gratitude for the honor and shared that the recognition meant a great deal, especially because it came from colleagues, students, and the community. Messages from former students reminded her that daily efforts in teaching can create a lasting impact.
Homuth has taught at Sheyenne High School for nine years, focusing mainly on 12th grade subjects such as U.S. Government and Economics. Alongside classroom teaching, she remained active in professional groups like the iCivics Educators Network and attended several training programs across the country. She also achieved her National Board certification last school year.
Her time at NDSU played an important role in shaping her career. She said the program helped her develop critical thinking and creativity, which she used regularly in her teaching. Her involvement in student activities also helped her build skills like teamwork and public speaking.
One of the most valuable experiences in her journey was teaching students. It gave her confidence and helped her grow as an educator. Although she first planned to teach middle school, she later found her passion in working with high school students.
Mentors at NDSU guided her path and supported her growth. Their teaching methods and practical advice prepared her for real-world challenges and improved her teaching approach.
Homuth encouraged future educators to keep learning, stay inspired, and maintain balance in life. She believed that continuous growth and self-care are key to long-term success in teaching.
