NDCW's beef advocacy - celebrating community and agriculture

By Scout Nelson

The North Dakota CattleWomen (NDCW), led by state president Joy Soreide Kinsey, are actively advocating for beef in North Dakota through various events and initiatives, educating the public on its benefits.

Joy, alongside her family at Soreide Charolais Ranch near Bowman, is not just about ranching but also about outreach. From organizing bull sales to participating in educational forums, their dedication to the beef industry is evident.

2023's bull sale was a success, and the optimism for the 2024 sale reflects the positive sentiments in the agricultural sector. Joy's leadership in NDCW has been instrumental in directing the organization's goals towards effective beef promotion.

The NDCW's activities are varied and widespread. Their annual convention, combined with meetings of the American National CattleWomen’s Association, brings together CattleWomen from across the nation to discuss important topics like mental health in agriculture and effective communication strategies in promoting beef.

Notable speakers like Callie Thorne and Shaye Koester have contributed significantly by addressing mental health and the use of social media in agriculture, respectively.  These discussions underline the challenges and opportunities within the agricultural community.

NDCW's district events across North Dakota showcase the versatility of beef. From hamburger days to beef trivia, the organization ensures the public is engaged and informed. Their efforts extend to food pantry donations, providing beef and recipes to those in need.

The Be Beef Strong 5K event and the Beef Month Photo Contest are creative ways the NDCW encourages public participation and raises awareness about beef's role in a healthy diet.

Looking ahead, NDCW is preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary with a special video project, highlighting the organization's rich history and vision for the future.  This project aims to capture the essence of NDCW's work over the decades and its impact on the community.

In their continuous effort to promote beef and support the agricultural community, NDCW welcomes new members who share their passion for beef and its role in sustainable farming and healthy diets.
