ND Crop Board Funding Meeting Update

ND Crop Board Funding Meeting Update

By Scout Nelson

The Crop Protection Product Harmonization and Registration Board will meet on April 22 at 1 p.m. at the North Dakota State Capitol. The meeting will take place in the Department of Agriculture’s conference room and will focus on key topics related to crop protection and agricultural development.

The meeting agenda includes several important items. It will begin with a call to order by Chairman Jeff Topp, followed by roll call and approval of previous meeting minutes from December 12, 2025. Board members will review budget reports for the Minor Use Pesticide Fund Grant and the Pesticide Harmonization Grant Program, both presented by Lilliann Johnston.

The board will also consider new funding requests under the Minor Use Fund. Research topics include weed control in onions and the evaluation of fungicides to manage blackleg disease in canola. These projects will be presented by experts from North Dakota State University.

In addition, the board will review new harmonization grant requests, including the 2026 North Dakota Grain Growers Association E-Tour. Updates will also be shared on several previously funded research projects. These include studies focused on improving fungicide use for diseases such as white mold, powdery mildew, root rot, and Ascochyta blight in crops like dry beans, field peas, and chickpeas.

The board will discuss findings related to fungicide timing, frequency, and integration with other farming practices. These updates will help guide better crop protection strategies for farmers.

The meeting will conclude with funding decisions and final discussions before adjournment.

The board is responsible for identifying crop protection needs and working to improve access to effective pesticide products. Its efforts support farmers by helping ensure better crop health and productivity across North Dakota.
