Foundation Seedstocks Introduces Exciting Varieties for 2024 Planting Season

Foundation Seedstocks Introduces Exciting Varieties for 2024 Planting Season

The planting season for 2023 foundation seedstocks is in full swing, with an on-time start and favorable conditions for crop emergence. As we approach completion, Foundation Seedstocks is thrilled to announce two new varieties set to make their debut in the spring planting season of 2024.

One of the highlights is ND Thresher, a hard red spring wheat, which has received approval from NDSU's variety release committee. Developed by Dr. Andrew Green, this variety boasts a shorter plant height, strong straw, and exceptional resistance to Fusarium head blight (FSB) and Bacterial Leaf Streak (BLS).

Notably, ND Thresher is well-suited for eastern North Dakota, delivering high yields, excellent protein content, and superior milling and baking qualities. With good maturity dry down and easy threshing, it promises to be a game-changer for wheat growers.

Another exciting addition is ND Victory, the first semi-leafless, green cotyledon field pea approved by NDSU's variety release committee. Bred by Dr. Nonoy Bandillo, this semi-dwarf variety showcases robust standability, high yield potential, and an impressive protein content of 25.2%. Moreover, it offers enhanced disease resistance, including protection against powdery mildew, providing growers with a resilient and high-performing option.

As the planting season progresses, Foundation Seedstocks encourages farmers to consider incorporating these innovative varieties into their crop selections. To obtain the new seeds, interested individuals can reach out to their local county agents or contact the North Dakota Crop Improvement and Seed Association. Certified seed producers are reminded to submit their field inspection applications by June 15.

Exciting times lie ahead for North Dakota's agricultural community as these promising varieties pave the way for a successful and productive future.
