NDSU Pesticide Training Helps Applicators

By Scout Nelson

Ward County will host a Private Pesticide Applicator Training event designed to help farmers and applicators meet certification requirements and improve safe pesticide use practices.

The training will take place at the North Central Research Extension Center located at 5400 Highway 83 South in Minot, North Dakota. The program supports agricultural producers by providing education on responsible pesticide handling and application.

The training is scheduled for March 4, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with doors opening at 9:00 a.m. Additional training dates include Mar 10, 2026, 9 am - 1:30 pm CT and Mar 16, 2026, 9 am - 1:30 pm CT, giving participants flexibility to attend a session that fits their schedule. The event focuses on helping private applicators understand current safety practices, regulations, and proper application methods that protect crops, workers, and the environment.

Pre-registration is required for participants. Individuals can register and pay online using a credit card at https://tinyurl.com/Ward-Private or call (701) 857-6444, reserve a spot and pay at the door using cash or check payable to the NDSU Extension Pesticide Program. The certification fee is set at $50, and the license remains valid for three years, allowing applicators to meet long-term requirements after completing the training. For registration visit.

Testing for new and lapsed applicators is available immediately following each training session. This gives participants an opportunity to complete certification requirements in one visit. The training and testing combination helps simplify the licensing process while encouraging proper pesticide use across agricultural operations.

Event organizers also provide support for accessibility needs. Participants who require accommodations related to disability are encouraged to contact the event coordinator, Paige Brummund at, paige.f.brummund@ndsu.edu or 701-857-6444, at least two weeks before the event.

Overall, the Ward County Private Pesticide Applicator Training offers valuable education for farmers and agricultural professionals. By combining classroom instruction, certification guidance, and testing opportunities, the program helps promote safe pesticide practices, regulatory compliance, and stronger agricultural management throughout North Dakota.
