Explore ag science at NDSU's campus adventure day

By Scout Nelson

Ready for an adventure that combines fun with learning? North Dakota State University (NDSU) is hosting an exciting Campus Agriculture Trip, designed specifically for young agriculture enthusiasts. This event, taking place on April 20, 2024, from 9 am to 12 pm CST, is a fantastic opportunity for youth to explore the vibrant world of agricultural sciences.

The journey begins at 9:00 am at the NDSU Swine Research and Teaching Center. Here, visitors will get an inside look at a farrow-to-finish operation, where about 130 sows produce approximately 2,500 finishing hogs each year. It's a unique chance to learn about modern swine production up close.

At 10:00 am, the adventure continues to the USDA Sunflower Research Lab. This segment of the trip delves into the science behind sunflower production, showcasing the research that supports the oilseed industry. Participants will discover the latest in sunflower agriculture, guided by experts in the field.

The trip isn't all science and study; at 11:00 am, we'll head to Thundar’s Game Room in the Memorial Union for some well-deserved relaxation and fun. With pizza and a variety of games like bowling, pool, table tennis, and more, it's the perfect way to wrap up the morning with laughter and new friends.

This event is entirely free, but registration is required to ensure a spot on this educational journey. Youth under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, while those 10 and older can attend independently with a signed health form.

For more information or to register for the event, please contact Lacy Christopher at lacy.christopher@ndsu.edu or call 701.642.7793.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to explore the world of agriculture and have a blast doing it!
