2024 Lake Region Extension Roundup - NDSU extension's annual agricultural event

2024 Lake Region Extension Roundup - NDSU extension's annual agricultural event

By Scout Nelson

The 2024 Lake Region Extension Roundup, an annual highlight for the agricultural community, is set to take place on January 3-4 at the Memorial Building in Devils Lake, North Dakota. This event, organized by North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension County offices, is a pivotal forum for farmers and ranchers to gather, learn, and discuss the latest trends in agriculture.

The Roundup kicks off with a complimentary breakfast, setting the stage for a series of enlightening general and concurrent sessions. Keynote speeches, scheduled in the historical World War II Memorial Building, promise to offer valuable insights. Topics range from resilience in farming to crop market outlooks, aiming to provide a comprehensive view of the agricultural sector.

Concurrent sessions delve into more specific subjects such as soil health, canola production, and cattle production concerns. These sessions, held in various rooms within the Memorial Building and the adjoining Ramsey County Courthouse, offer a chance for more detailed discussions and learning.

A unique feature of this year's event is the multiple roundtable discussions, a format that has been continued due to positive feedback. These discussions provide an interactive platform for addressing pressing issues like resistant weeds, soil health, and horticulture.

Besides these learning opportunities, the Roundup also boasts an exhibition with over 50 booths, allowing attendees to explore new technologies, services, and products. It's not just an educational event but also a networking hub where farmers, ranchers, and extension personnel can connect and share experiences.

This event is open to everyone, free of charge, with no registration required. Lindsay Overmyer, NDSU Extension agent, emphasizes the event's importance in preparing for the upcoming growing season and highlights the opportunity for networking that it provides.

Whether you're a seasoned farmer, a newcomer to the field, or simply interested in agriculture, the Lake Region Extension Roundup offers valuable and comprehensive experience in the world of farming and agriculture.
