North Dakotans Get Nearly Perfect Week for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 6% very short, 24% short, 59% adequate, and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 2% very short, 20% short, 68% adequate, and 10% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 29% fair, 54% good, and 11% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 81%, equal to last year, and behind 90% for the fiveyear average. Setting pods was 55%, ahead of 38% last year, but behind 61% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 26% fair, 59% good, and 9% excellent. Spring wheat coloring was 72%, near 71% last year, but behind 83% average. Mature was 24%, ahead of 16% last year. Harvested was 2%, near 1% last year and 5% average.

Durum wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 24% fair, 65% good, and 6% excellent. Durum wheat coloring was 71%, well ahead of 45% last year, and ahead of 64% average. Mature was 12%, near 8% last year.

Winter wheat condition rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 32% fair, 61% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat coloring was 96%, near 92% last year. Mature was 74%, ahead of 59% last year. Harvested was 28%, well ahead of 7% last year, and equal to average.

Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 21% fair, 56% good, and 16% excellent. Corn silking was 80%, ahead of 61% last year, and near 77% average. Dough was 7%, ahead of 1% last year, but near 9% average.

Canola condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 21% fair, 60% good, and 14% excellent. Canola coloring was 51%, ahead of 37% last year, but behind 61% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 4% fair, 43% good, and 50% excellent.

Oats condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 25% fair, 64% good, and 6% excellent. Oats headed was 97%, equal to last year, and near 99% average. Coloring was 70%, ahead of 58% last year, but behind 83% average. Mature was 23%. Harvested was 4%, near 1% last year, but behind 12% average.

Barley condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 29% fair, 58% good, and 8% excellent. Barley coloring was 79%, near 76% last year, but behind 90% average. Mature was 26%, near 22% last year. Harvested was 3%, near 1% last year, but behind 9% average.

Dry edible peas condition rated 0% very poor, 3% poor, 22% fair, 65% good, and 10% excellent. Dry edible peas dropping leaves was 76%, ahead of 64% last year, but near 77% average.

Harvested was 9%, ahead of 2% last year, but behind 19% average.

Sunflower condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 19% fair, 65% good, and 11% excellent. Sunflowers blooming was 54%, well ahead of 31% last year, and equal to average.

Flaxseed condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 26% fair, 66% good, and 6% excellent. Flaxseed blooming was 96%, near 97% last year. Coloring was 34%, near 31% last year, but behind 46% average.

Potato condition rated 3% very poor, 3% poor, 22% fair, 54% good, and 18% excellent. Potatoes blooming was 95%. Rows closed was 78%, near 81% last year and 82% average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 23% fair, 52% good, and 12% excellent. Dry edible beans blooming was 77%, behind 85% last year and 90% average. Setting pods was 47%, behind 59% last year and 63% average.

Alfalfa condition rated 1% very poor, 14% poor, 31% fair, 49% good, and 5% excellent. Alfalfa second cutting was 54%, well ahead of 32% last year, and near 50% average.

Lentils harvested was 1%.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2% very poor, 11% poor, 34% fair, 49% good, and 4% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 1% very short, 18% short, 76% adequate, and 5% surplus.
