The Cover Crop Summit 2025, set for March 26, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM Mountain Time, invites attendees to explore various aspects of cover cropping. The event will take place at Hettinger REC, located at 102 Hwy 12 W, Hettinger, ND 58639. The summit will be held both in-person and virtually, offering a hybrid format for maximum accessibility.
The summit features an array of expert speakers discussing topics related to soil health, farming practices, and the environmental benefits of cover crops. The agenda begins at 8:00 AM with Lindsay Malone, an Assistant Professor in Conservation Agronomy, presenting on the carbon cycle. Following this, Carlos Pires, an Assistant Professor at NDSU, will explore how soil microbes influence farming practices.
The summit continues with Darrell Oswald, the District Manager at Menoken Farm, who will explain the five key principles of soil health. Jay Fuhrer, a Soil Health Specialist with NRCS, will delve into the role of cover crops in soil regeneration. Additional topics include the integration of crop-livestock systems, perennial cover crops, and the impact of cover crops on forage production.
After a break, the afternoon session focuses on carbon credits, conservation planning, and the potential of cover crops to improve yields and mitigate environmental challenges such as salinity. Farmers such as Lloyd Alveshere and Deanna & Kelly Lozensky will share their personal experiences in regenerative farming.
