The North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center (CREC) is gearing up for its annual field day on July 18, offering a range of informative tours. One of the highlights will be the organic and sustainable agriculture tour, with a specific focus on regenerative soil health.
The morning tour will delve into the importance of soil conservation practices, while the afternoon tour will center around the local food movement. Other tours offered during the event include agronomy, northern hardy fruit, and beef production.
The field day starts at 9 a.m. with registration, coffee, and a warm welcome. The organic and sustainable agriculture tour will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last until noon. Speakers will discuss topics like soil surface protection, diverse plant species value, continuous roots significance, and livestock integration in sustainable farming practices.
The afternoon tour will shift its focus to northern hardy fruits, cider making, and the promotion of local foods, with insights from industry experts and representatives from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. An update on the North Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society will be provided, shedding light on the latest advancements in sustainable farming practices.
Located 3.5 miles north of Carrington on U.S. Highway 281, the CREC serves as the ideal venue for this informative and engaging field day.
