North Dakota State University Extension and FirstLink are collaborating to host a seminar focusing on mental and behavioral health in the agriculture industry and related fields. The Adult Mental Health First Aid program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize, understand, and respond to signs of depression and other mental health concerns.
Registration is now open for the full-day seminar, scheduled for June 28 in Bismarck, North Dakota, and July 11 in Dickinson, North Dakota. The training will be facilitated by experienced trainers from FirstLink, providing attendees with valuable awareness and techniques to support their own mental well-being, help individuals coping with stress, and assist those working in challenging environments.
The seminar is free of charge to registered participants, thanks to the support of the North Dakota Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Center project. This initiative is made possible through a federal grant awarded to NDSU Extension by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA-NIFA).
Recognizing the toll that ongoing stress can have on mental and emotional health, Sean Brotherson, family science specialist with NDSU Extension, emphasizes the importance of seeking help and being a source of support for others. The Adult Mental Health First Aid program has proven effective in raising awareness and equipping individuals with the skills to identify mental health concerns and connect individuals with appropriate resources.
