Senator John Hoeven meets with North Dakota livestock producers to gather feedback on key agricultural initiatives. He discusses the cattle contract library pilot program, which aims to improve transparency and competitiveness in cattle markets by providing producers with valuable contract information.
The senator is working to make this program a permanent part of the upcoming farm bill.
Senator Hoeven and Senator Tester are working on a Livestock Disaster Relief Act to improve livestock disaster programs. The bill aims to align coverage between Livestock Forage Program (LFP) and Emergency Assistance for Livestock Program (ELAP), increase producer assistance, and include transportation costs for feed, water, and livestock as covered losses under ELAP.
Hoeven's efforts go beyond livestock programs; he is also working to maintain and strengthen crop insurance, update the farm safety net, improve transparency and competition in cattle markets, and ensure that agricultural programs remain voluntary and farmer-friendly, reducing regulatory burdens on producers.
By engaging with North Dakota ranchers and considering their input, Senator Hoeven aims to create an inclusive and effective farm bill that addresses the needs of farmers and ranchers while fostering competitiveness and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
