In a recent development, Senator John Hoeven, part of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has played a crucial role in ensuring the Senate's nod for the Fiscal Year 2024 bills. These appropriations are geared towards Agriculture, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs (Milcon-VA), and Transportation.
Hoeven expressed his commitment to the regularity of the appropriations process. Through this, he highlighted the critical importance of these bills for North Dakota's farmers, military personnel, veterans, and its wider communities.
Agriculture Highlights:
Hoeven, taking charge as the chief Republican on the Agriculture Appropriations Committee, ensured notable support for North Dakota. This includes a $2 million backing for a new agricultural policy research hub at NDSU.
A significant $50 million is also earmarked for agricultural research in the state. Other notable allocations comprise $3 million for the ARS Edward T. Schafer Agricultural Research Center upgrades, and $2.5 million to foster an AgTech collaboration involving Grand Farm and NDSU.
Military and Veterans Affairs:
Being an integral part of the Milcon-VA Appropriations Committee, Hoeven has channeled funds for North Dakota's servicemembers and veterans. Over $5.4 million is destined for the future National Guard Readiness Center in Dickinson.
Funding aims to uplift the Minot Air Force Base and Camp Grafton. There's also a push to enhance veterans' healthcare, including exploring hyperbaric oxygen therapy for post-traumatic stress and brain injuries.
Transportation and Housing Updates:
On the transportation front, North Dakota is set to receive $6 million for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) research projects and $14 million for the FAA’s UAS Center of Excellence, co-led by the University of North Dakota.
