As per the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service in the week concluding on October 8, 2023, there were 4.1 productive fieldwork days last week. Peeking at moisture levels, topsoil moisture seemed mostly adequate at 72%, while subsoil moisture stood at 63% adequacy.
Here's a round-up of crop progress:
Soybean: The overall condition seems positive, with 37% rated as good. Most soybeans, about 95%, have dropped their leaves, aligning closely with last year's figures. However, the harvest is slightly lagging, being 8% behind last year's progress.
Wheat: Durum wheat harvest met last year's figure at 96%. As for winter wheat, 84% has been planted and 65% has emerged, showing promising growth compared to previous years.
Corn: Corn's condition is largely favorable with 57% rated good. 88% of the corn has matured, outpacing last year's rate. The harvest is in full swing at 14%.
Other Crops: Canola, sugarbeets, sunflowers, flaxseed, potatoes, and dry edible beans are progressing well. Some like potatoes are even ahead of last year's figures, with 90% already harvested!
Lastly, our pastures and ranges seem to be in a healthy state, with 55% rated as good. Stock water supplies remain predominantly adequate at 82%.
