North Dakota's $187K boost to Agri-innovation

By Scout Nelson

In an exciting move for the agricultural sector, North Dakota's Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring announced that the Agricultural Products Utilization Commission (APUC) awarded $187,000 to four innovative projects.

This decision was made during the APUC's quarterly meeting in Bismarck, demonstrating the state's commitment to advancing its agricultural capabilities and supporting its rural communities.

The APUC, a key program of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, is dedicated to funding research and the development of new and expanded uses for North Dakota's agricultural products.

This includes a wide range of initiatives from basic and applied research to marketing, farm diversification, and even nature-based agritourism.

The beneficiaries of these grants include:

  • Northdale Oil Inc., awarded $50,000 for a feasibility study on a new bio plant near Grand Forks.
  • SafetySpect Inc., with a $20,000 grant to enhance drone technology for crop disease detection.
  • North Dakota Department of Agriculture itself, receiving $70,000 to promote state products at domestic trade shows.
  • Guardian Grains LLC, which received $47,000 to develop a robust marketing strategy.

These projects highlight North Dakota's innovative approach to agriculture, focusing on technology, market expansion, and increased visibility for local products.

The next round of grant applications will be reviewed on May 29-30, 2024, in Fargo, with the deadline for submissions set for April 1, 2024.

This ongoing support for agricultural projects underscores the state's dedication to the growth and sustainability of its primary industry, ensuring a bright future for North Dakota's farming communities.
