North Dakota Spring Planting Pace Lags Averages



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 0% very short, 5% short, 67% adequate, and 28% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 1% very short, 7% short, 68% adequate, and 24% surplus.

Soybeans planted was 41%, well behind 94% last year and 85% for the five-year average. Emerged was 4%, well behind 62% last year and 46% average.

Spring wheat planted was 74%, well behind 100% last year and 97% average. Emerged was 34%, well behind 85% last year and 81% average. Jointed was 1%, well behind 23% last year, and behind 17% average.

Durum wheat planted was 62%, well behind 96% last year and 95% average. Emerged was 28%, well behind 63% last year and 71% average. Jointed was 1%, behind 12% last year and 14% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 5% very poor, 4% poor, 26% fair, 54% good, and 11% excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 79%, behind 84% last year, but near 78% average. Headed was 8%, behind 13% both last year and average.

Corn condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 35% fair, 56% good, and 7% excellent. Corn planted was 81%, behind 96% last year and 92% average. Emerged was 22%, well behind 72% last year and 64% average.

Canola planted was 65%, well behind 94% both last year and average. Emerged was 12%, well behind 49% last year and 62% average.

Sugarbeets planted was 92%, behind 100% both last year and average.

Oats condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 22% fair, 66% good, and 10% excellent. Oats planted was 84%, behind 99% last year and 95% average. Emerged was 40%, well behind 83% last year and 73% average.

Barley condition rated 0% very poor, 0% poor, 32% fair, 55% good, and 13% excellent. Barley planted was 75%, well behind 100% last year and 97% average. Emerged was 29%, well behind 85% last year and 80% average. Jointed was 1%, behind 20% last year and 19% average.

Dry edible peas condition rated 0% very poor, 0% poor, 24% fair, 63% good, and 13% excellent. Dry edible peas planted was 77%, behind 96% last year and 95% average. Emerged was 28%, well behind 69% last year and 73% average.

Sunflowers planted was 33%, well behind 70% last year and 67% average. Emerged was 2%, well behind 25% last year and 22% average.

Flaxseed planted was 47%, well behind 93% last year and 89% average. Emerged was 12%, well behind 48% last year and 49% average.

Potatoes planted was 38%, well behind 99% last year and 95% average. Emerged was 7%, well behind 78% last year and 43% average.

Dry edible beans planted was 29%, well behind 90% last year and 82% average. Emerged was 2%, well behind 48% last year and 33% average.

Alfalfa condition rated 0% very poor, 0% poor, 28% fair, 59% good, and 13% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 30% fair, 51% good, and 12% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 0% very short, 8% short, 79% adequate, and 13% surplus.
