North Dakota schools can get free hydroponic gardens

North Dakota schools can get free hydroponic gardens

By Scout Nelson

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) is offering schools the opportunity to incorporate a hydroponic tower garden into their curriculum through a new grant program.

"This grant provides a unique opportunity for schools to bring STEM learning to life and engage students in hands-on horticulture activities," said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.

The grant program will provide schools with a complete hydroponic tower garden system, including all necessary equipment and supplies. Schools will have until May 2024 to grow their tower garden and integrate it into their lesson plans, but the NDDA encourages schools to continue using the system long after the grant period ends.

Applications for the grant program are now open and can be submitted online at https://www.ndda.nd.gov/towergarden. The deadline to apply is Friday, January 5, 2024. Successful applicants will be notified by January 12, 2024, and tower gardens will be delivered by January 31, 2024.

This grant program is a valuable resource for schools looking to enhance their STEM education offerings and provide students with a fun and interactive way to learn about agriculture, technology, and healthy eating.
