North Dakota Planting Progresses, Though Slowly



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 0% very short, 4% short, 61% adequate, and 35% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 2% very short, 8% short, 67% adequate, and 23% surplus.

Soybeans planted was 23%, well behind 86% last year and 70% for the five-year average. Emerged was 1%, well behind 41% last year and 23% average.

Spring wheat planted was 59%, well behind 97% last year and 91% average. Emerged was 22%, well behind 73% last year and 64% average.

Durum wheat planted was 46%, well behind 87% last year and 86% average. Emerged was 14%, well behind 48% last year and 49% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 24% fair, 47% good, and 20% excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 75%, near 78% last year, but ahead of 65% average.

Corn planted was 56%, well behind 92% last year and 83% average. Emerged was 7%, well behind 60% last year and 42% average.

Canola planted was 45%, well behind 80% last year and 81% average. Emerged was 3%, well behind 31% last year and 36% average.

Sugarbeets planted was 60%, well behind 100% last year and 99% average.

Oats condition rated 0% very poor, 2% poor, 31% fair, 63% good, and 4% excellent. Oats planted was 69%, well behind 94% last year, and behind 87% average. Emerged was 30%, well behind 69% last year and 57% average.

Barley condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 35% fair, 47% good, and 15% excellent. Barley planted was 62%, well behind 96% last year and 91% average. Emerged was 18%, well behind 73% last year and 63% average.

Dry edible peas planted was 66%, well behind 88% both last year and average. Emerged was 15%, well behind 60% last year and 55% average.

Sunflowers planted was 22%, well behind 52% last year and 44% average.

Flaxseed planted was 31%, well behind 81% last year and 76% average. Emerged was 1%, well behind 32% last year and 29% average.

Potatoes planted was 32%, well behind 93% last year and 85% average. Emerged was 5%, well behind 43% last year, and behind 19% average.

Dry edible beans planted was 19%, well behind 72% last year and 61% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2% very poor, 14% poor, 31% fair, 39% good, and 14% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 1% very short, 10% short, 78% adequate, and 11% surplus.
