North Dakota Pays Respects to Christy

North Dakota Pays Respects to Christy

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong has issued a directive for all U.S. and state flags in North Dakota to be flown at half-staff from dawn to dusk on Friday, February 28. This order is in solemn remembrance of state Representative Josh Christy of Fargo, who passed away on February 18 at the age of 43.

Rep. Christy, who was first elected to the state House of Representatives in November 2022, died during the current legislative session in Bismarck. His untimely death has prompted the state to honor his service and contribution.

The governor also encourages residents and business owners throughout North Dakota to lower their flags in respect on the same day. This collective gesture aims to pay tribute to Christy's dedication and service to the state.

Funeral services are set to be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 28, at Living Waters Lutheran Church located at 4451 40th Ave. S., Fargo. The service will be preceded by a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the same church, with a prayer service scheduled at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will occur one hour prior to the funeral on Friday. Following the funeral service, Christy will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo.

This period of mourning not only reflects the respect and esteem held for Christy by his colleagues and constituents but also underscores the impact of his public service on the community. The lowering of flags serves as a visual symbol of the state’s grief and recognition of his contributions to public life in North Dakota.
