North Dakota Offers Ag Support Loans

North Dakota Offers Ag Support Loans

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota is offering new financial support for agriculture producers as they deal with ongoing economic pressure. The Industrial Commission has announced two relief programs for the 2026 season: the Farm Financial Stability Loan Program and the Grain Inventory Loan Program. Both programs are offered through the Bank of North Dakota, and producers work through their local lenders to apply.

Producers across the state continue to face many challenges at the same time. Severe weather during the summer of 2025, combined with high input costs, uncertain trade conditions, and low commodity prices, has created added financial stress. State leaders say these conditions make it harder for producers to plan ahead and keep operations stable.

The 2026 Farm Financial Stability Loan Program supports producers who had an operating shortfall in 2024 or 2025. Loan funds may be used to rebuild working capital, manage carryover from past operating loans, or restructure current term debt.

This program offers a fixed interest rate of 3.75 percent for the Bank of North Dakota’s portion of the loan for five years. The local lender may charge no more than the Bank’s Base Rate plus one percent. A total of $300 million is set aside for this effort.

The 2026 Grain Inventory Loan Program supports producers needing short-term financing for leftover grain inventory. The Bank of North Dakota will offer variable interest rates set at 0.75 percent below its Base Rate at the time of funding. As with the stability program, local lenders may not exceed the Base Rate plus one percent. A total of $100 million is available for this program.

Bank of North Dakota leaders say they are committed to helping producers adjust to fast-changing economic conditions. They note that local lenders know the needs of their communities and can help connect producers to the right program.

Applications for both loan programs open on December 9, 2025, at noon Central Time and close on June 30, 2026. More information on the program from BND can be found at bnd.nd.gov/ffslp and bnd.nd.gov/gilp.
