NDSU Hosts Farm Tax Planning Event

NDSU Hosts Farm Tax Planning Event

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University Extension is hosting a virtual income tax management program for agricultural producers and tax preparers. The online event takes place on December 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. CST through Zoom. The program helps participants learn about important tax changes, reporting rules, and planning options before the end of the year.

The meeting is moderated by Ron Haugen, an NDSU Extension farm management specialist. He explains that the program gives producers and tax preparers a chance to ask questions and understand tax alternatives while there is still time to make year-end decisions. The goal is to help farmers manage taxes in a smart and organized way.

The program features presentations by experts from several organizations. Speakers include representatives from the Internal Revenue Service, Ag Country Farm Credit Services, the University of Minnesota Extension, and Oklahoma State University Extension. These experts share up-to-date information and practical guidance for farm and ranch situations.

Topics covered include federal income tax updates, reporting lease and easement income, IRS updates, identity theft, retirement planning, depreciation, like-kind exchanges, disaster reporting, qualified business income, and general tax planning. These subjects help producers understand the rules that affect farm income and long-term financial choices.

Registration is required by November 25, and the cost of the program and materials is $25. To register, visit ndsu.ag/incometax. Participants must have an email address and access to Zoom. Registered attendees receive a meeting link and materials by email. They can also ask questions through the chat box during the program.

All materials are posted online before the meeting so attendees can download them early. Continuing education credits are not available for this event. For questions or more details, participants may contact Paulann Haakenson at paulann.haakenson@ndsu.edu or 701-231-7393.

This virtual program supports farm families by giving them clear information and tools to manage taxes, prepare for the future, and make confident year-end financial decisions.
