NDSU Extension Hosts Dry Bean Webinar

NDSU Extension Hosts Dry Bean Webinar

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University Extension is hosting an online educational event focused on dry bean production to support farmers and crop advisers seeking practical, research-based guidance. The Getting It Right in Dry Bean Production webinar will take place on Feb. 17 and is designed to address key challenges faced by growers.

The webinar is organized by NDSU Extension and supported by the Northarvest Bean Growers Association. The online-only event is held through Zoom and runs from 8:30 a.m. to noon CST. The program focuses on providing timely information that helps producers improve management decisions ahead of the upcoming growing season.

“Last year, we had a hard year for dry beans, with a high pressure of white mold. Several key agronomic challenges emerged across the state's dry bean-producing area,” says Ana Carcedo, NDSU Extension broadleaf crops agronomist. “These educational webinars will share research updates and practical recommendations to help farmers make informed production decisions for the 2026 growing season.”

Specialists from NDSU will present sessions that will cover important dry bean topics. These include white mold management, effective weed control strategies, inoculation considerations, and an overview of market conditions. Each presentation will end with a live question and answer session, allowing participants to ask questions related to their own farming operations.

The webinar will also provide professional development value. Certified crop advisers who attend the live event can earn continuing education credits, making the session useful for both learning and certification needs.

There is no registration fee, but the advance sign up is required. Participants who register will receive an email with instructions and a Zoom link before the event. This ensures smooth access to the online meeting.

The webinar supports NDSU Extension’s goal of delivering clear, research-based information to help farmers manage crops more effectively. By sharing current research and practical recommendations, the program helps growers reduce risk, address disease and weed pressure, and plan for the next growing season with confidence.
