A unique educational experience provided by NDSC guided a diverse group of visitors through the entire journey of soybeans — from harvest in a North Dakota field to cooking demonstrations in a kitchen.
Participants included chefs, dietitians, nutritionists, social media influencers, and extension professionals, many of whom had never observed a soybean field up close or witnessed harvest activities before.
The highlight of this event was a combine ride, offering firsthand insight into how soybeans are collected efficiently with modern farming equipment. This hands-on introduction dispelled common misconceptions by illustrating daily tasks carried out in a typical soybean field.
Such experiences demonstrated the precision involved in harvesting and emphasized the care taken to maintain crop quality.
Beyond the field, participants spent time in a classroom setting, engaging with a nutrition expert who presented the latest research on soy health benefits. A cooking specialist then led a culinary workshop, where attendees learned how to incorporate soy-based products into a variety of recipes.
These demonstrations showcased everything from classic dishes to innovative creations, underscoring the versatility of soy as a nutritious ingredient.
One of the tour’s central goals was to help educators and influencers understand the farm-to-fork process, allowing them to share accurate information about soybean cultivation and usage.
Attendees discovered that soy can be adapted into different forms, making it easier for consumers to include in balanced diets. By offering practical tips, the event equipped those in attendance with the knowledge needed to guide their audiences toward healthier food choices.
Participants left with an appreciation for the hard work and technology behind modern soybean production. They also gained confidence in using soy products in everyday meals, enabling them to impart reliable advice to others.
With many describing the experience as transformative, the Food and Farm Tour exemplified how collaboration between the agricultural sector and nutritional experts can foster deeper understanding.
As a result, more individuals are now prepared to advocate for the benefits of soy, both in the kitchen and across various media platforms, promoting wider adoption of this versatile crop.
