The North Dakota Industrial Commission has provided additional funding to support farmers through the 2026 Farm Financial Stability Loan Program. The new allocation increases total financial support to $500 million, including funds from the Grain Inventory Loan Program. This step aims to help producers manage financial stress and maintain stable operations.
Farmers are currently facing several challenges, including high input costs, changing market conditions, and weather-related losses. These issues have created financial pressure for many producers, making it difficult to maintain working capital and continue operations smoothly.
“Producers are facing an unusual convergence of challenges, from severe weather last summer to high input costs, trade policy uncertainty and low commodity prices. This additional loan funding ensures producers’ financial needs are supported for the 2026 growing season,” the Industrial Commission said in a joint statement.
The loan program is designed to help farmers who experienced operating shortfalls in recent years. It allows them to rebuild working capital, manage carryover expenses, and restructure existing debts. The loans offer a fixed interest rate of 3.75% for five years, making them more manageable for producers.
Farmers can apply for the program through local lenders, who handle the application process. The program is available until June 30, 2026, or until funds are fully used. This encourages producers to apply early to secure financial support.
The Industrial Commission, which oversees the Bank of North Dakota, plays a key role in supporting the state’s agricultural sector. By increasing funding, it aims to strengthen farm operations and reduce financial risks.
Overall, this initiative provides important financial support during a challenging time. It helps farmers manage costs, improve stability, and continue contributing to the agricultural economy.
