NDFB President Elected to AFBF Leadership

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota Farm Bureau President Val Wagner has been elected to serve on the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Board of Directors. The appointment gives North Dakota representation at the national level and allows Wagner to help guide important agriculture policies and priorities.

Wagner was selected by Farm Bureau leaders from the Midwest region to fill a vacant board position. She will serve the remaining term through January 2027. Her election marks an important achievement for the North Dakota Farm Bureau and strengthens the state’s role in national agricultural leadership.

"I am truly honored by the opportunity to represent North Dakota on the American Farm Bureau Federation Board. Leadership isn't about speaking the loudest, it's about listening first. I am grateful for the opportunity to carry the views of North Dakota Farm Bureau members to the national level and advocate for the issues that matter most to them," Wagner said.

"The future of agriculture is bright because of the people who dedicate their lives to it every day. I look forward to working together to strengthen our farms, ranches, and rural communities while ensuring North Dakota continues to have a respected and influential voice at the highest levels of Farm Bureau leadership," she added.

NDFB Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Missling said Wagner’s election shows the strong leadership and trust she has built among agricultural members in North Dakota and the Midwest region.

"Val's election to the AFBF Board is a proud moment for North Dakota Farm Bureau and for every member she represents," NDFB Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Missling said. "Her dedication to agriculture, her thoughtful leadership style, and her deep roots in our farming and ranching communities make her an outstanding voice for our state at the national level."

Wagner comes from Monango, North Dakota, where she and her husband operate a Red Angus and Simmental livestock ranch. They also grow corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and cover crops. She became NDFB president in 2025 after serving in several leadership roles, including vice president and District 3 board member.

Throughout her career, Wagner has supported agricultural education and leadership programs. She has served on Farm Bureau committees focused on promotion, education, young farmers, and ranchers. She has also contributed to her local community through the school board service.

Her new role with AFBF allows Wagner to continue representing farmers and ranchers while supporting the future of agriculture across the country.
