ND Hosts Anhydrous Ammonia Safety Training

By Scout Nelson

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the North Dakota Agriculture Association, has announced a series of safety training sessions focused on anhydrous ammonia handling. These sessions are crucial for individuals involved in managing or working with this chemical at storage facilities across the state.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring emphasized the importance of these trainings, stating, “Annual documented safety training is required for any person handling, transferring, transporting or otherwise working with anhydrous ammonia at storage facilities.” He further noted that attendees who complete the training will receive a certificate, underscoring the sessions’ compliance with state regulations.

The training will cover a variety of important topics including the chemical properties and health hazards associated with anhydrous ammonia, proper care, inspection, and maintenance of facilities and nurse tanks, and updates on relevant regulations. Such comprehensive coverage ensures that participants are well-prepared to handle anhydrous ammonia safely and effectively.

Scheduled to take place at multiple locations throughout March, these sessions are strategically timed and located to maximize accessibility for all interested parties. Specific sessions include:

  • March 4 at TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Dickinson at 1 p.m. MT
  • March 5 at Sleep Inn & Suites Conference Center in Minot at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • March 25 at Spirit Lake Casino in Devils Lake at 1 p.m.
  • March 26 at AmericInn by Wyndham in Valley City at 9:30 a.m.
  • March 27 at Homewood Suites in Fargo at 9:30 a.m.

The participation fee for each session is $35, with pre-registration highly recommended to ensure a smooth and efficient training experience. Additional details, including how to register, can be found on the North Dakota Agriculture Association’s website or by contacting their office directly.

This initiative reflects North Dakota’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards in agriculture, aiming to reduce risks and enhance the safety of those working with anhydrous ammonia in the agricultural sector.
