This October, the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) invites groups to celebrate Farm to School Month by joining the Mountain Plains Crunch Off! Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring encourages farmers, students, teachers, parents, community members, and local food enthusiasts to dive into the celebration, supporting local agriculture.
North Dakota is in friendly competition with seven other states to see which can crunch into the most local produce per capita.
Crunch events can be organized anytime until October 31, 2023. To be counted in the state’s total, interested hosts should register at this link.
A complete Crunch Off Toolkit is available here to help participants join in on the festivities.
The Crunch Off is among several activities held during Farm to School Month. Every October, schools, farms, communities, and organizations across the country unite to promote food education, appreciate school gardens, and enjoy lunch trays filled with local ingredients.
Created to spread awareness about the national Farm to School program, this initiative encourages students to consume more locally produced fruits and vegetables, fostering education on food production and the benefits of eating local.
Don’t miss this opportunity to support and appreciate local agriculture, engage in food education, and crunch into delicious, locally sourced produce!
