Final Call for 2026 Crop Trial Entries

Final Call for 2026 Crop Trial Entries

By Scout Nelson

The Carrington Research Extension Center (REC) shares an important update as it finalizes plans for the 2026 growing season, encouraging seed companies and producers to submit their variety trial entries soon. The center is now in the last phase of accepting submissions, with limited space still available for some crops.

Deadlines for canola and corn entries have already passed on March 15. However, a small number of spots may still be open as final plot arrangements are being completed. Interested participants can reach out directly at 701-652-2951. The seed submission deadline for these crops is April 1.

For soybean and sunflower trials, the contract deadline is April 1, while seed submissions must be completed by April 15. The link for online submission of canola, corn, soybean, and sunflower can be found at https://ndsu-cefbm.formstack.com/forms/ndsucroptesting2026. Clear seed requirements are set for each crop, including 100 grams for canola, 2 pounds for corn and soybeans, and 200 grams for sunflower. Limited openings are also available in small grain trials, with final arrangements expected to be completed by April 1.

The Carrington REC conducts trials in two different environments, including dryland and irrigated conditions. This approach helps compare how different crop varieties perform under varying moisture levels. It provides useful data for farmers, researchers, and industry partners.

In addition to standard trials, the center also supports custom research projects. Companies can collaborate on product testing or request tailored trials based on specific needs. This flexibility helps improve agricultural practices and product performance.

The center is also developing a new system called the Field Research Submission Tool. This platform aims to simplify how companies submit trial entries across multiple crops and locations. Early testing with field pea stakeholders shows positive progress, and further improvements are planned. Broader testing is expected next year.

Participants are encouraged to act quickly and submit their entries before all spaces are filled as the 2026 trial plans are finalized.
