Economist to Present Human Progress and Flourishing Workshop

Kristen Monaco, chief economist of the Federal Maritime Commission, is set to present the next Human Progress and Flourishing Workshop at NDSU. "Assessing the Impact of Autonomous Trucks on the Labor Market" is scheduled for March 4 at 10 a.m. in Beckwith Recital Hall.

All members of the NDSU community and the public are invited to attend the free event. After the presentation, food and refreshments will be served in the Challey School of Music Atrium.

In her presentation, Monaco will share data on how autonomous, or self-driving, trucks will likely impact employment for the trucking industry. She will assess the short-term effects of automation and the opportunity for technology to improve outcomes.

Monaco has held prior positions at the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Before working in the federal government, she was a professor of economics at California State University Long Beach. She earned her doctorate in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The Human Progress and Flourishing Workshop is hosted by the Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth. Internationally renowned scholars from universities across the country are invited to present their research and engage with the NDSU community.

Past speakers and their presentations can be viewed at https://www.ndsu.edu/challeyinstitute/events/workshop/.
