Dakota College Launches New Agriculture Degree Program

Dakota College Launches New Agriculture Degree Program

By Scout Nelson

Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) is starting a new Agriculture Management and Technology program to support the strong farming industry in north central North Dakota. This program begins in Fall 2019 and is designed to help students build successful careers in agriculture.

This program is a result of a partnership between DCB, Lake Region State College, and Williston State College. The goal is to provide quality education, practical training, and real-world work experience for students. The program offers four focus areas: Livestock Production, Crop Production, Specialty Crop Production, and Agribusiness.

Students can choose to earn a one-year certificate or a two-year associate degree. Courses are available on campus, online, or through the Interactive Video Network, giving students the flexibility to learn in a way that works best for them.

Some shorter courses may also be offered from January to March or April. These shorter classes will give students the chance to work on farms or in agribusinesses during the busy spring season through internships.

This agriculture program is part of the North Dakota Ag Consortium, which includes DCB, Lake Region State College, and Williston State College. Together, these schools are working to meet workforce needs by sharing resources and working as a team, not as competitors.

Agriculture is a major employer in the region and across the state. This program is meant for students who want to enter the agriculture field or advance in their current roles by gaining hands-on experience and learning about the latest farming technology.
