Crop Advisers Gain Insights at January Workshop

Crop Advisers Gain Insights at January Workshop

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University Extension, together with University of Minnesota Extension, hosts the 2026 Advanced Crop Advisers Workshop on January 27 and 28 in Fargo, North Dakota. The two-day event is designed to give crop advisers clear, practical, and research-based information they can use to support farmers.

The workshop focuses on current research results and proven management practices. These sessions help advisers guide farmers toward better decisions that improve crop performance, manage risk, and protect farm profits during difficult economic conditions.

“This workshop provides in-depth, current and relevant research results and management recommendations, which help crop advisers assist farmers to maximize return on investment and produce high-yielding crops in challenging conditions,” says Jeff Stachler, workshop co-chair and NDSU Extension cropping systems specialist.

A key feature of the program is a panel discussion focused on making smart input purchase decisions in a tight farm economy. This discussion helps advisers understand cost pressures while still supporting strong crop outcomes.

The first day begins with registration in the morning, followed by educational sessions that run through late afternoon. Topics include herbicide adjuvants, alternative weed control tools, fertilizer facts, crop market and trade outlooks, and ways to make every input count. A pest identification quiz also runs throughout the day and into the next morning.

On the second day, sessions focus on both crop and people management. Topics include managing stress and mental wellness in agriculture, emerging and resistant insect pests in soybean, wheat, and corn, field crop diseases, weed management improvement, and soil compaction and soil health. The program ends with lunch.

Visit ndsu.ag/cropadvisers26 to view a brochure with workshop details and registration information. Early registration is required before January 25 to receive reduced pricing. The full two-day workshop costs $200, while a one-day option is available. Higher fees apply for walk up registration.

Certified crop advisers may earn up to 10 continuing education units by attending both days. This workshop offers a valuable learning opportunity that combines science, practical tools, and real-world farm challenges to strengthen adviser support for farmers.
