Boost your farm with new RFSI grants

Boost your farm with new RFSI grants

By Scout Nelson

The Department of Agriculture has introduced a new opportunity for farmers and food producers to enhance their operations. The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) Program is here to boost the middle of the supply chain, offering a fresh avenue for those producing food locally or regionally.

A generous fund of $4. 69 million, provided by the USDA's Agriculture Marketing Service, is set to fortify the state's food system. The goal is to streamline the process from farm to table, ensuring that local foods reach markets more efficiently.

This initiative targets a broad range of products, from specialty crops and dairy to grains and aquaculture, aiming to fill gaps in storage, processing, and distribution.

Two grant options are available for applicants: an equipment-only grant ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, and a more comprehensive infrastructure grant starting at $100,000.

It's a competitive process, so interested parties are encouraged to apply soon. All the details, including how to apply, are neatly laid out in an information manual on the North Dakota Department of Agriculture's website.

The application deadline is fast approaching, with submissions due by April 3, 2024. It's a fantastic opportunity for those looking to make a difference in their community's food supply resilience. For further details contact Deanna Gierszewski at (701) 328-2191 or degierszewski@nd.gov.

Don't miss out on the chance to advance your agricultural operations and contribute to a more robust food system in North Dakota.
