The Sow Bridge educational series, targeting professionals in the swine industry, is set to launch its new program year in early February 2025. This program is essential for those involved with sows, boars, and piglets, particularly focusing on genetic and reproductive challenges.
Registration for this valuable series has already begun. Sow Bridge offers its courses online, utilizing Zoom to facilitate live discussions and presentations. These sessions are also recorded, allowing participants to view them later, ensuring flexibility in access.
"Sow Bridge is a great opportunity for participants to hear from experts on relevant topics and network to assist in solving on-farm problems as they arise," commented Taw Scaff, a swine specialist from North Dakota State University Extension.
The program schedule is designed to be accommodating, with sessions typically held on the first Wednesday of each month from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. To avoid scheduling conflicts with the World Pork Expo, the May session has been moved up a week.
Each session in the series allows participants to engage directly with industry experts, posing questions and discussing real-time issues from the comfort of their office or farm. Registration grants access to one Zoom connection for each live session and includes all program materials.
The topics for the 2025-2026 sessions cover a range of critical areas, from disease management and feeding strategies to the psychological impacts of pig euthanasia and environmental management in farrowing stalls.
For those interested, detailed program information and registration forms are available online at the provided NDSU link. The cost of the series is $200 for the initial registration, with a 50% discount for additional registrations from the same entity.
This program is a collaborative effort supported by 15 colleges and universities across the major swine-producing states, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse learning experience. For more details or to register, participants are encouraged to contact Taw Scaff directly.
Sow Bridge is committed to enhancing the knowledge and practices of swine management professionals, ensuring better care and productivity in the industry.
