2025 North Dakota Angus Feed-Out Program

2025 North Dakota Angus Feed-Out Program

By Scout Nelson

The 2025 North Dakota Angus University (NDAU) Feed-Out Program is now open for enrollment. This annual program, held in partnership with the North Dakota Angus Association and NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center (REC), offers participants the chance to evaluate the performance and profitability of their Angus calves.

Enrollment runs from March 13 to May 30, 2025, and is open to those using Angus sires in their operations. The program will accept consignments of 800-1100 lb. steers for delivery between June 2-6, 2025, and participants will receive valuable insights on calf performance throughout the feeding period.

During the program, participants will receive periodic reports on calf performance, as well as a final report covering overall performance, efficiency, and carcass traits. This feedback allows participants to better understand how their calves perform, and grade once fed to finish weight. The program also highlights the potential profitability that can be achieved through retained ownership.

In addition to performance data, there is an exciting opportunity for prizes. Sponsors of the program, including LaMoure Feed & Seed, Neogen, and Western Ag Reporter, will offer $1,500 in prizes for top individual carcasses and groups.

Those interested in enrolling should contact the NDSU Carrington REC or the ND Angus Association for more details. Karl Hoppe, Ph.D., and Colin Tobin, Ph.D., from NDSU REC, as well as Sydney Glasoe Caraballo, NDAU Feed-Out Program Chair, are available to assist with inquiries.

This program offers a great opportunity to gain practical insights into cattle performance, and it can be a valuable resource for those seeking to optimize profitability through retained ownership.

To enroll in the 2025 NDAU Feed-Out Program, contact Karl Hoppe or Colin Tobin at the NDSU Carrington REC, or Sydney Glasoe Caraballo at the ND Angus Association.
