N.D. Farmers Get 4 Days Suitable for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3% very short, 20% short, 59% adequate, and 18% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 3% very short, 17% short, 62% adequate, and 18% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 26% fair, 59% good, and 10% excellent. Soybeans emerged was 96%, near 98% last year and 99% for the five-year average. Blooming was 9%, ahead of 4% last year, but behind 22% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 30% fair, 55% good, and 6% excellent. Spring wheat jointed was 90%, equal to last year, and behind 95% average. Headed was 59%, ahead of 45% last year, but behind 68% average. Coloring was 2%, near 5% average.

Durum wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 27% fair, 62% good, and 4% excellent. Durum wheat jointed was 82%, behind 92% last year and 93% average. Headed was 56%, ahead of 37% last year and 51% average. Coloring was 6%, near 3% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 33% fair, 53% good, and 5% excellent. Winter wheat headed was 95%, ahead of 87% last year, and near 93% average. Coloring was 21%, ahead of 8% last year, but behind 28% average. Mature was 2%, near 5% average.

Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 23% fair, 61% good, and 11% excellent. Corn emerged was 96%, near 99% last year and 100% average.

Canola condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 25% fair, 61% good, and 9% excellent. Canola blooming was 54%, near 53% last year, but well behind 75% average. Coloring was 2%, near 4% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 2% fair, 45% good, and 52% excellent.

Oats condition rated 2% very poor, 8% poor, 29% fair, 53% good, and 8% excellent. Oats jointed was 88%, near 86% last year, but behind 94% average. Headed was 50%, ahead of 34% last year, but behind 67% average. Coloring was 2%, behind 8% average.

Barley condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 28% fair, 56% good, and 7% excellent. Barley jointed was 89%, near 91% last year, and behind 96% average. Headed was 56%, ahead of 48% last year, but behind 71% average. Coloring was 1%, equal to last year.

Dry edible peas condition rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 20% fair, 69% good, and 7% excellent. Dry edible peas blooming was 70%, ahead of 56% last year, but near 74% average. Dropping leaves was 2%, near 4% average.

Sunflower condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 29% fair, 61% good, and 6% excellent. Sunflowers planted was 96%, near 100% both last year and average. Emerged was 91%, near 93% last year, and behind 96% average.

Flaxseed condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 17% fair, 77% good, and 2% excellent. Flaxseed blooming was 36%, equal to last year, and behind 44% average.

Potato condition rated 4% very poor, 4% poor, 27% fair, 59% good, and 6% excellent. Potatoes emerged was 96%, near 100% both last year and average. Blooming was 34%, well ahead of 9% last year, and near 30% average. Rows closed was 6%.

Dry edible bean condition rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 25% fair, 54% good, and 10% excellent. Dry edible beans blooming was 10%, near 7% last year and 13% average.

Alfalfa condition rated 2% very poor, 13% poor, 39% fair, 41% good, and 5% excellent. Alfalfa first cutting was 79%, well ahead of 46% last year, and ahead of 66% average. Second cutting was 1%, near 2% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 3% very poor, 9% poor, 33% fair, 51% good, and 4% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 1% very short, 13% short, 78% adequate, and 8% surplus.
