N.D. Wheat in Storage Up 34 Percent

North Dakota all wheat stored in all positions in North Dakota on December 1, 2018 totaled 279 million bushels, up 34 percent from a year ago, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. On-farm stocks of 188 million bushels are up 36 percent from 2017, and off-farm stocks of 91.5 million bushels, are up 30 percent from last year.

Durum wheat stored in all positions totaled 35.5 million bushels, up 43 percent from a year ago.

Barley stored in all positions totaled 34.7 million bushels, down 15 percent from 2017. On-farm stocks are 17.0 million bushels, down 23 percent from last year, while off-farm stocks, at 17.7 million bushels, are down 7 percent from last year.

Corn stocks totaled 331 million bushels, down 21 percent from 2017. Of the total, 245 million bushels are stored on farms, down 18 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 86.4 million bushels, are down 27 percent from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 174 million bushels, up 35 percent from last year. Onfarm stocks of 105 million bushels are up 54 percent from a year ago, while off-farm stocks, at 68.5 million bushels, are up 12 percent from 2017.

Oats stocks stored on-farm, at 3.25 million bushels, are up 20 percent from a year ago.

Hay stocks on North Dakota farms totaled 4.00 million tons on December 1, 2018, up 23 percent from a year earlier.

Grain storage capacity in North Dakota totaled 1.39 billion bushels, up 35.0 million bushels from December 1, 2017. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 915 million bushels of onfarm storage, up 15.0 million from last year, and 475 million bushels of off-farm storage, up 20.0 million from 2017.
