Scaglia Named Interim Associate Director NDSU Extension

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University has appointed Guillermo Scaglia as interim associate director of NDSU Extension. His new leadership role becomes effective July 7 and will focus on overseeing statewide Extension agents, educators, and outreach programs.

In this position, Scaglia will help guide Extension efforts related to agriculture and natural resources, family and community wellness, and 4-H youth development programs. University leaders said his experience in leadership, education, and agriculture will support Extension activities during this transition period.

Scaglia currently serves as head of the Department of Animal Sciences at NDSU. During his time in the department, he has managed leadership transitions, directed strategic planning efforts, supported budget realignment, and helped strengthen undergraduate student recruitment. He has also worked to advance fundraising and support for livestock facilities and faculty endowments.

“We are excited to have Dr. Scaglia take on this important administrative role,” says Greg Lardy, Joe and Norma Peltier Vice President for Agriculture at NDSU. “His expertise and leadership skills will be valuable during this interim period.”

Before joining NDSU, Scaglia held leadership positions at Louisiana State University and the LSU AgCenter. His previous work included serving as associate program leader for agriculture and natural resources. Throughout his career, he has gained experience in Extension services, agricultural research, administration, and stakeholder engagement within large statewide systems.

University officials said Scaglia’s background in agriculture education and outreach will help support Extension programs serving communities across North Dakota. NDSU Extension continues providing educational resources and programs that support farmers, ranchers, families, and youth throughout the state.

NDSU Agriculture has also started an internal search process to select an interim head for the Department of Animal Sciences following Scaglia’s appointment to the Extension leadership role.

University leaders believe the appointment will help maintain stability and support continued growth within Extension programs while strengthening agricultural education and outreach efforts across North Dakota communities.
