The Agriculture Commissioner of North Dakota, Doug Goehring, has announced the implementation of a royalty oversight program following its establishment by the 68th Legislative Assembly earlier this year. This program aims to provide technical assistance, support, and educational outreach to royalty owners, lease owners, and mineral companies dealing with royalty payment issues.
Previously, there was no designated agency or entity to address the concerns of royalty owners in need of technical assistance regarding their royalty payments. With the new law in place, royalty owners experiencing payment issues can now seek help from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA).
When a royalty owner contacts the NDDA, an independent ombudsman will be assigned to assess the situation. The ombudsman will then communicate the findings to the operator and work collaboratively with all parties involved to promptly resolve the payment issues.
In addition to resolving payment disputes, the program will also offer educational outreach to assist royalty owners who have been or might be affected by royalty-related problems.
To request assistance, individuals in need can contact the NDDA at 701-328-5110 or submit their request through the website https://www.ndda.nd.gov/royalty-oversight-program
