North Dakota Leadership Program Celebrates Graduates

North Dakota Leadership Program Celebrates Graduates

By Scout Nelson

Rural Leadership North Dakota (RLND) celebrates the success of its Class X graduates during a special gala held in Medora, North Dakota. Alumni, sponsors and community supporters gather to recognize the accomplishments of the participants and acknowledge leaders who help strengthen the program. RLND is known for preparing emerging and experienced leaders to support rural communities and the state’s agricultural sector.

The Class X group includes 14 participants who spend 18 months completing seminars, site visits, workshops and a national travel experience. Through these activities, they build skills in communication, critical thinking, collaboration and civic engagement. Their class motto, “The X Factor: Xperience, Xplore, Xpand,” shows their commitment to learning, leadership and growth.

During the celebration, NDSU Extension leaders praise the graduates for their dedication and encourage them to continue serving their communities. Each graduate receives a special RLND plaque to mark the achievement.

Several awards are also presented. The RLND Leader Award goes to Barry Medd for his long-time support of the program. His nine years on the RLND Council, including service through the COVID-19 pandemic, help shape the program and strengthen alumni involvement. His work in banking, community service and charitable efforts demonstrates steady leadership.

Starion Bank receives the RLND Champion Award for its strong and ongoing support. The bank provides sponsorships, speakers, facilities and encouragement for employees to take part in the program. Their efforts show a belief in the value of rural leadership.

The RLND Alumni Association Eagle Award is presented to Rep. Jayme Davis of Class VII. Her work in public service, community leadership and support for rural communities and tribal nations reflects RLND’s core values.

The gala raises more than $20,000 to support scholarships, community projects and alumni activities. A matching gift from Michael and Kathleen O’Keeffe helps strengthen the RLND scholarship fund.

RLND continues to support leaders who want to make a difference in rural North Dakota. The program focuses on building strong networks, addressing key issues and supporting the long-term vitality of rural and agricultural communities.
