In its latest update for the week ending November 12, 2023, the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service provides key insights into North Dakota's agricultural progress.
Farmers in North Dakota had 4.5 days suitable for fieldwork. The state's topsoil moisture levels are predominantly adequate, with only a small percentage in surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies show a similar trend, indicating generally favorable conditions for crop growth.
Winter wheat is showing a positive trend, with a majority in good to excellent condition. The corn harvest is slightly behind the previous year's pace at 76%, though it's close to the five-year average. Sunflower harvesting, at 59%, is notably behind both last year's and the average rates, suggesting challenges in this sector.
Pasture and range conditions are mostly good or fair, which is promising for livestock grazing. Stock water supplies are mostly adequate, with a small percentage in surplus, ensuring sufficient water availability for livestock.
