The 2024 North Dakota Reclamation Conference, themed "Energy Development, Ecosystems and People," is scheduled for February 27-28 at the Astoria Event Center in Dickinson. This event is a convergence of ideas and best practices aimed at tackling the evolving challenges of land reclamation in the context of energy development.
The conference will serve as a platform for professionals to discuss effective reclamation strategies. Its agenda includes a general session that will address the social and environmental impacts of energy development.
There will be breakout sessions focusing on vegetation establishment and assessment methods for remediation and reclamation. A tradeshow and social event are also part of the conference itinerary.
The keynote speaker, Steve Grodsky from the U.S. Geological Survey and Cornell University, will deliver an address on the sustainability and environmental considerations of energy transitions. His talk will highlight the role of renewable energy ecology in sustainable land-use change.
The second day of the conference will feature concurrent breakout sessions covering topics such as seeding recommendations, weed management, and case studies on reclamation challenges. These sessions aim to foster learning and collaboration, enhancing current reclamation practices.
Organized by NDSU Extension, Dickinson State University, and several other notable institutions, the conference will host presenters from various sectors, including academia, government agencies, and private industry.
