Corn, soybean, and wheat crop progress report

The top 18 corn-growing states reported that, as of August 11, 2024, 94% of their corn harvest had reached the silk growth stage, up from 88% the week before and matching the five-year average of 94%. Furthermore, ahead of the five-year average of 56%, 60% of the corn crop had progressed to the dough growth stage, up from 46% the week before.

18% of the corn crop in 16 of the states with the fastest growth rates had reached the dent growth stage, up from 7% the week before and higher than the five-year average of 12%.

For soybeans, the USDA reported that 91% of the crop in the top 18 growing states had reached the bloom growth stage by August 11, up from 86% the week before and slightly ahead of the five-year average of 90%. Seventy-two percent of soybeans had reached the pod growth stage, up from 59% the previous week and ahead of the five-year average of 70%.

The USDA also reported on oat progress, with 57% of oats in the top nine producing states harvested by August 11. This was up from 47% the previous week but slightly behind the five-year average of 59%.

For spring wheat, 18% of the crop in the top six growing states had been harvested by August 11, up from 6% the previous week but behind the five-year average of 21%.

Finally, the USDA noted that 93% of winter wheat in the top 18 growing states had been harvested by August 11, up from 88% the week before and ahead of the five-year average of 91%.
