This year's Central Dakota Ag Day promises an enriching experience for participants with a wide range of topics. Hosted on December 15 at North Dakota State University’s Carrington Research Extension Center, the daylong event is a hub for learning about various facets of agriculture.
Attendees can look forward to sessions on crop production, weed management, veterinary issues, and crop and livestock market outlooks. Adding to the diversity, this year’s program includes new subjects like a deep dive into a custom combining business, results from home garden variety trials, and an exploration of North Dakota’s rich food traditions.
The event is not just an educational opportunity for farmers and ranchers but also offers certified crop advisors a chance to earn continuing education units. According to Jeff Gale, Extension Agent, agriculture and natural resources in Foster County, the aim is to enrich the knowledge base of the agricultural community.
The program kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with a casual gathering over coffee and doughnuts. The keynote address titled “Life Left-Handed” by rancher Doug Bichler, will share his experience and learnings following a traumatic farm injury. The day concludes with a session on the 2023-2024 Crop Market Outlook by NDSU Extension crops economist Frayne Olson.
Central Dakota Ag Day is a collaborative effort by Extension agents and specialists from multiple counties, along with the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center. Sponsors include the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council, the North Dakota Soybean Council, North Dakota Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, and crop improvement associations.
The event requires no registration, and lunch is provided to attendees.
