February 2024 will mark the return of the acclaimed Best of the Best in Wheat and Soybean Research meetings, a crucial event for agricultural professionals in North Dakota and Minnesota. Scheduled for Feb. 7 at the Alerus Center, Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Feb. 8 at the Courtyard by Marriot, Moorhead, Minnesota, the meetings promise a full day of engaging topics from 8:20 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year's agenda is packed with crucial topics, including wheat disease management strategies, innovative pigweed control methods, selection tips for spring wheat varieties, combating Phytophthora root rot in soybeans, and the latest on ag equipment pricing and commodity market trends.
The event will feature Wade Webster, the new NDSU Extension soybean pathologist, along with seasoned speakers like Dave Franzen and Frayne Olson from NDSU Extension, discussing soil science and crop marketing economics.
Melissa Carlson from the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers will shed light on her groundbreaking research with combine-mounted sensors for real-time spring wheat protein measurement, a technology stirring considerable interest for its potential to revolutionize harvest data collection.
Attendees can look forward to hands-on demonstrations covering a variety of topics, from cover crop roots and insect defoliators to soil salinity's impact on wheat and soybeans. These interactive sessions are designed to enhance understanding through direct engagement with experts and materials.
The event also offers Certified Crop Advisor continuing education units across four categories, ensuring professionals can stay ahead in nutrient management, pest management, crop management, and professional development.
