During the 2024 North Dakota Dairy Convention in Bismarck, the Pay-Dak Dairy, LLC, was distinguished with the prestigious 2023 Commissioner’s Award of Dairy Excellence. The farm, managed by Jonas and Sam Heyl since 2016, boasts a rich history dating back to its origin in 1941 and a dairy restart in 1985.
The Heyls operate the dairy, milking 300 cows, and manage a diverse 3,000-acre farm. Their crops include alfalfa, small grains, corn, soybeans, and canola, showcasing their commitment to sustainable and varied agricultural practices.
Their engagement with the community is clear through their hoop greenhouse, where they cultivate produce for local consumption.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring commended the Pay-Dak Dairy for its consistent production of high-quality milk and exemplary inspection record. He highlighted the Heyl family's dedication to the dairy lifestyle and their contribution to consumer markets despite facing various challenges.
Situated near Towner, ND, the Pay-Dak Dairy is a Grade A member of Dairy Farmers of America. Their milk undergoes processing into specialty cheeses in Pollock, SD, adding value to their product line.
This award recognizes the Pay-Dak Dairy’s commitment to excellence in dairy farming and its role in sustaining the agricultural community.
