North Dakota 4H Youth Shine at National Conference

North Dakota 4H Youth Shine at National Conference

By Scout Nelson

The 2025 National 4-H Conference takes place from April 11 to 16 in Washington, D.C., bringing together young leaders from across the country. The event offers a unique opportunity for youth to build leadership skills, engage in teamwork, and present their views on national issues.

Three delegates from North Dakota attended the event. They join other teen leaders from across the United States and Puerto Rico.

They form priority topic committees, where they share ideas and propose solutions to important problems that young people face today.

The North Dakota delegates say they enjoy meeting peers from different states and learning to work with people who have different opinions. The experience helps them understand the importance of collaboration and communication.

A key part of the conference is meeting government officials. Each group presents its ideas on Capitol Hill. Marisa Mumm, a delegate from Richland County, finds the experience inspiring. She talks about the importance of 4-H programs and highlights why agriculture in North Dakota needs continued support.

North Dakota 4-H members also created a report to share with lawmakers. It includes achievements such as strong youth programs and the hardworking spirit of local communities.

It also outlines areas for improvement, like better care for the environment and support for young farmers. The report also suggests opportunities for growth through technology and entrepreneurship.

This conference is the top leadership and civic engagement event for 4-H youth. Applications for the 2026 delegate program are open and due by August 1, 2025, through NDSU Extension.
