North Dakota Farmers Union has launched a national Week of Action campaign to push Congress to pass a complete and helpful farm bill. The goal is to get quick and strong support for a bill that helps farmers, ranchers, and consumers alike.
About 100 Farmers Union members from different states are now in Washington, D.C., talking to lawmakers in person. Many more are sharing their support from home through social media, calling attention to the needs of family farms and rural communities.
The campaign’s message is clear—Congress must work together across party lines to create a farm bill that meets the real needs of agriculture. Farmers Union members are calling for five major priorities in the new bill:
- Stronger farm safety net: This will help farmers handle uncertain times and prices.
- Better conservation programs: Voluntary programs that protect the land and water should continue and grow.
- Fair market rules: The bill should help restore fairness and give smaller farms a better chance.
- Reliable risk protection: Fast, fair, and simple tools should be available when farmers face losses.
- Widespread support: The bill should benefit both farmers and consumers to gain full public backing.
The North Dakota Farmers Union believes that now is the time to act. With farmers facing many challenges, including weather problems, price changes, and market pressure, a good farm bill is more important than ever.
