NDSU Graduate Shares Community Message at Commencement

NDSU Graduate Shares Community Message at Commencement

By Scout Nelson

North Dakota State University (NDSU) graduate Halli Heimbuch was chosen as the spring commencement speaker for the 2 p.m. ceremony on May 17. Her speech will highlight the power of belonging, give thanks, and come together as a community.

Heimbuch describes her college experience as a “heart-warming, old-fashioned potluck,” a mix of shared experiences and learning from others. This idea of unity and support shapes her message to fellow graduates, families, faculty, and alumni.

Heimbuch earns her master’s degree in exercise and nutrition science. She has worked hard to reach her goal of becoming a registered dietitian nutritionist. Her passion for health and service is shown through her leadership on campus and her many activities beyond the classroom.

She has been involved in several student groups, including the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Cantemus choir, University Chamber Singers, and the Asian Student Organization. Her work with the Goods for the Herd Food Pantry has helped fight food insecurity on campus, where she served as the pantry coordinator.

Heimbuch also worked with her classmates to lead the 800 Café, teamed up with NDSU Extension, and interned with Fargo Cass Public Health and Essentia Health. She did research with the Healthy Aging North Dakota lab, sharing findings at conferences and in journals.

She is thankful for every chance NDSU gave her. After graduation, Heimbuch plans to take the national exam to become a Registered Dietitian. She will soon join the Sanford Health Fargo team as a clinical dietitian.
