N.D. Soybean Pod Setting Ahead of 2019 Pace

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 3% very short, 18% short, 61% adequate, and 18% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 2% very short, 20% short, 63% adequate, and 15% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 29% fair, 53% good, and 10% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 71%, ahead of 65% last year, but behind 79% for the five-year average. Setting pods was 30%, ahead of 19% last year, but behind 40% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 30% fair, 57% good, and 7% excellent. Spring wheat headed was 97%, equal to last year, and near 98% average. Coloring was 44%, near 43% last year, but behind 63% average. Mature was 6%, near 3% last year. Harvested was 1%, equal to average.

Durum wheat condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 30% fair, 59% good, and 6% excellent. Durum wheat headed was 97%, near 94% last year. Coloring was 40%, well ahead of 20% last year, but behind 47% average. Mature was 1%.

Winter wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 34% fair, 56% good, and 4% excellent. Winter wheat coloring was 90%, ahead of 80% last year, but near 91% average. Mature was 57%, well ahead of 33% last year. Harvested was 6%, ahead of 1% last year, but near 10% average.

Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 21% fair, 54% good, and 18% excellent. Corn silking was 56%, well ahead of 30% last year, and ahead of 51% average. Dough was 2%, equal to average.

Canola condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 20% fair, 61% good, and 15% excellent. Canola coloring was 20%, ahead of 10% last year, but behind 37% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 5% fair, 44% good, and 50% excellent.

Oats condition rated 1% very poor, 6% poor, 26% fair, 61% good, and 6% excellent. Oats headed was 94%, near 93% last year and 96% average. Coloring was 46%, ahead of 30% last year, but well behind 66% average. Mature was 5%.

Barley condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 30% fair, 57% good, and 8% excellent. Barley headed was 96%, equal to last year, and near 98% average. Coloring was 47%, near 49% last year, and well behind 75% average. Mature was 5%.

Dry edible peas condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 24% fair, 62% good, and 9% excellent. Dry edible peas blooming was 96%, near 94% last year. Dropping leaves was 42%, ahead of 27% last year, but behind 49% average.

Sunflower condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 24% fair, 62% good, and 10% excellent. Sunflowers blooming was 21%, near 19% last year, but behind 29% average.

Flaxseed condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 26% fair, 63% good, and 6% excellent. Flaxseed blooming was 89%, near 92% last year, and behind 94% average. Coloring was 21%, ahead of 6% last year, but behind 26% average.

Potato condition rated 5% very poor, 4% poor, 26% fair, 49% good, and 16% excellent. Potatoes blooming was 92%, near 95% last year and 94% average. Rows closed was 71%, equal to last year, and ahead of 66% average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 5% very poor, 9% poor, 26% fair, 48% good, and 12% excellent. Dry edible beans blooming was 71%, behind 77% last year and 81% average. Setting pods was 26%, behind 35% last year.

Alfalfa condition rated 2% very poor, 11% poor, 33% fair, 47% good, and 7% excellent. Alfalfa second cutting was 29%, ahead of 14% last year, but near 33% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2% very poor, 10% poor, 34% fair, 49% good, and 5% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 2% very short, 14% short, 76% adequate, and 8% surplus.
