State Grain and Hay Stocks Mixed

All wheat stored in all positions in North Dakota on December 1, 2020 totaled 253 million bushels, down 6% from a year ago, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. On-farm stocks of 172 million bushels are down 7% from 2019 and off-farm stocks of 81.0 million bushels are down 4% from last year.

Durum wheat stored in all positions totaled 23.7 million bushels, up 6% from a year ago. Of the total, 19.5 million bushels are stored on-farms, up 15% from last year, while 4.23 million bushels are stored off-farm, down 21% from 2019.

Barley stored in all positions totaled 26.7 million bushels, down 23% from 2019. On-farm stocks are 16.0 million bushels, down 24% from last year, while off-farm stocks, at 10.7 million bushels, are down 22% from last year.

Corn stocks totaled 252 million bushels, down 35% from 2019. Of the total, 165 million bushels are stored on farms, down 51% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 87.1 million bushels, are up 92% from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 103 million bushels, down 26% from last year. On-farm stocks of 44.0 million bushels are down 39% from a year ago, while off-farm stocks, at 58.6 million bushels, are down 12% from 2019.

Oats stocks stored on-farm, at 6.00 million bushels, are up 64% from a year ago.

Hay stocks on North Dakota farms totaled 3.70 million tons on December 1, 2020, down 12% from a year earlier.

Grain storage capacity in North Dakota totaled 1.39 billion bushels, unchanged from December 1, 2019. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 930 million bushels of on-farm storage, unchanged from last year, and 460 million bushels of off-farm storage, unchanged from 2019.
